Baptist Community Services is a nonprofit organization, putting our Faith into action as Christ’s hands and feet by serving people. Located in Amarillo, Texas, we own, operate, fund, and support nonprofit companies that provide health and wellness to our community through quality living and healthcare for senior adults, nutritious meals for kids, and inspiring healthy lifestyles for all.

Our History

Baptist Community Services has a rich history marked by expansion, innovation, and a focus on looking toward the future. Through the years, BCS has strived to further its mission of serving the people of the Texas Panhandle.

1968

High Plains Baptist Hospital opens.

1978

Park Place Towers is conceived by several persons in 1978, the principal of which is Dr. Winfred Moore. The vision is shared with the First Baptist Church of Amarillo, and the First Baptist/Amarillo Foundation is organized to develop the vision into a firm proposal.

1984

Construction begins on Park Place Towers.

1986

Park Place Towers construction is completed in February, and its first resident, Catherine Morrison, moves into apartment #704 on March 1.
High Plains Baptist Hospital purchases the Amarillo Town Club.
Park Place Towers and Ware Memorial (located on the second floor) are formally dedicated on May 9, 1986.

1987

High Plains Baptist Health Systems is formed to be the parent company for High Plains Baptist Hospital and its affiliates.

1989

First Baptist/Amarillo Foundation, Inc. sells ownership of Park Place Towers to High Plains Baptist Health Systems.

1991

The Continental Retirement Center is purchased by High Plains Baptist Health Systems.

1993

Groundbreaking ceremony for the new Ware Memorial and Assisted Living Center. Park Place Towers, The Continental, the new Ware Memorial and Assisted Living Center form Park Central Retirement Community

1994

Ware Memorial and Assisted Living Center are dedicated.
Remodel begins on the second floor of Park Place Towers, formerly Ware Memorial.

1995

The new Ware Memorial second floor opens.
The remodeled Park Place Towers’ second floor opens with new apartments.

1996

Baptist Community Services (BCS), formerly High Plains Baptist Health Systems, evolves from the merger of High Plains Baptist Hospital and St. Anthony’s Hospital.
High Plains Christian Ministries Foundation is established to “make a difference for Christ in Amarillo, in Texas, and the World.”

1997

The Park Central Medical Clinic Opens

1998

Jackson Square Fountain and Grill opens in the new Mall located between Ware Memorial and Park Place Towers at Park Central.
Ware Memorial receives accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
Park Central receives the Northwest Texas Quality Award.
High Plains Christian Ministries Foundation gives its first million dollars in gifts and grants.

1999

Ware Memorial is certified as an Eden Alternative home.
BCS purchases the historic Talmage and Park Apartments.

2001

Groundbreaking for Plemons Court, affordable housing for senior adults.
Shadow Hills, affordable housing for senior adults, opens in Lubbock, Texas.
Historical renovations to the Talmage Apartments begin.
The Amarillo Town Club completes its major renovation project and has a grand reopening.

2002

BCS purchases the former Olsen Manor Nursing Home, renamed The Arbors, and begins remodeling.
Groundbreaking for Harrington Assisted Living Center.
Amarillo Town Club voted Best Health & Fitness Club by readers of Amarillo Globe-News.

2003

Park Central voted Best Retirement Community by readers of Amarillo Globe-News.
Open house and dedication ceremony for The Talmage and Plemons Court.
The Arbors, formerly Olsen Manor Nursing Home, burns to the ground before renovations are completed.
BCS purchases Wolflin Park for the new site of The Arbors and future development.

2004

Construction begins and is completed on the Mary Ware Clock Tower, located in the heart of Park Central campus.
Following an extensive remodel, the Alzheimer’s Unit is renamed The Village at Ware Living Center.
Construction begins on The Arbors’ new location in Northwest Amarillo.
BCS purchases the Riata Energy building, located at 701 Park Place Ave., for use as corporate offices.

2005

Corporate operations have been moved to the new corporate office building near the Park Central campus.
The Harrington Assisted Living Center opens.

2006

The Arbors opens at its new location near the Harrington Regional Medical Center.

2007

BCS joins with the Junior League of Amarillo and the Amarillo Area Foundation to begin development of the Medical Center League House, to provide accommodations to patients at the Harrington Regional Medical Center and their families.
The Assisted Living Center at Park Central is named in honor of Dr. Winfred and Elizabeth Moore.

2008

The Amarillo Town Club Southwest located in The Colonies, opens in Southwest Amarillo.

2009

Construction begins on the Medical Center League House.
The Park Central Medical Clinic is moved to the former HR Building in the center of the Park Central campus.

2010

Snack Pak 4 Kids^® begins in Amarillo.
The Medical Center League House opens.

2011

BCS is notified by CHRISTUS Health, partner in the BSA Health System, that it wishes to sell.

2012

BCS and CHRISTUS begin a national search for a new owner for the BSA Health System. Some 30 potential purchasers are contacted. Negotiations begin with Ardent Health Services of Nashville, Tennessee to purchase BSA.
BCS agrees to remain a 20% owner in BSA in partnership with Ardent.

2013

The BSA sale closes with Ardent Health Services.
Snack Pak 4 Kids™ of Texas LLC is formed as a controlled affiliate of BCS, and the Snack Pak program becomes a part of the BCS Family of organizations.

2014

Snack Pak 4 Kids^® completes a capital fundraising campaign and purchases the warehouse located at 2406 SW 3rd Ave. in Amarillo.

2015

Snack Pak 4 Kids^® relocates its operations to its new warehouse facility, and expands its operations throughout the Texas Panhandle region.
BCS sells its 20% ownership interest in BSA to Ardent and its partner Ventas.

2016

BCS donates its apartment complex located at 11th and Jackson to the Downtown Women’s Center, which becomes The Gratitude House for transitional housing.

2017

BCS sells its interest in the Shadow Hills affordable housing complex to the remaining partners.

2018

The Sycamore memory care assisted living facility opens and receives its first residents.

2019

The renovations to The Arbors are completed and it is converted to a Medicare skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility.
The new Ware long-term care facility is completed and residents move from the old Ware facility.
Construction and renovation of the old Ware facility are completed to convert the facility to The Moore assisted living facility.
The BSA Medical Clinic is moves to the new Moore facility.

2020

The new Moore facility opens and residents from The Harrington and the old Moore facility are move in.
Renovations are completed on the conversion of The Harrington into independent living apartments for Senior Adults.
Renovation begins on conversion of the old Moore facility and Grill area into The Commons, which will contain an expanded Grill, new Marketing offices, new Nurse Navigator offices, a convenience store and fast food area, and a new Amarillo Town Club for residents and BCS employees.

2021

The Chaplaincy Program is relocated to the renovated former HR/medical clinic building, and is renamed The Well to be utilized as a spiritual center on the Park Central campus.
